Gugin set to join Delecke at Northland University
From the fall of 2005 until the spring of 2007 Mike Gugin was a key player with the Ojibwa Eagles. He played in 74 games and earned 22 points with the team. However his hard work and team attitude was one of the biggest reasons for the team's successes at the time.
This season Gugin played for the Elliot Lake Bobcats of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). While playing for the Bobcats Gugin saw 37 games in the regular season and nine more in the Bobcats playoff run. Through the 46 games Gugin put up 16 points and 10 penalty minutes. His efforts shined through though as he impressed scouts from Northland University, and just a couple weeks ago Gugin made his mind up to go play for the Lumberjacks.
"I choose Northland becasue it's not too far from home, great people run the school, and i can get an education while i play hockey." said Gugin when asked why Northland was the place for him to play. He'll be joining fellow Eagle Alumnus Rick Delecke, who played his freshman year and Northland this year. While Delecke and Gugin never played together for the Eagles they both were aware of the other. "His size and strength will be a great addition to our forwards next year" said Delecke. Gugin is 6'2" tall and weighs in at just over 200 pounds. He will immediately be the biggest forward on Northland's roster.
His size won't be the only benefit for Northland as Gugin's work ethic and dedication to team are top notch. These are lessons Gugin learned with the Ojibwa Eagles during his two-year stint with the team, "Some of the biggest lessons i learned with the Eagles were keeping a positive attitude, battling through adversity, keeping a goal in mind, and hard work."
Delecke is looking forward to seeing Gugin next year and hopes many other Eagles are able to move on as well, "it's great to have fellow Eagles earning their way into the college ranks, and playing along side of them is even better." Gugin also showed excitement about the possibility, "I am excited to know that I will be playing with a fellow eagle alum."
This season Northland was knocked out of the MCHA tournament by Finlandia University. However, with more solid recruits coming in, they'll look to be a contender next season in MCHA play.

Eagles Finish NAHL Invite 1-3
After the Eagles' hard fought loss to Columbus, the Eagles dropped another battle with Compuware by a 3-0 score. The Eagles played hard and physical against their downstate foes, but could not convert on their scoring chances. Chris Jackson played a solid game for the Eagles, keeping the game tight during many Compuware power play opportunities.

For their second game of the day, the Eagles played the Pittsburgh Hornets. The Eagles came out hard, and competed through the first half of play. After the first half, the Eagles were down 1-0, but playing very well. The second half would prove to be the Eagle's downfall, as they looked tired and could not match the effort put forth by the Hornets. The Eagles lost the game 6-0, while the Pittsburgh Hornets went on to win the tournament on Monday afternoon.

On Sunday morning, the Eagles played the Motor City Chiefs in a game that had no ramifications in the tournament. The Eagles notched a 4-2 win over the Chiefs, despite having three of their top forwards out of the lineup. Miiko Karstu paced the Eagles, scoring three of the Eagles four goals.

Jibs Drop First Game at NAHL Showcase
The Ojibwa Eagles dropped the first game of the NAHL Showcase to the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets by a 3-1 mark. The game featured alot of back-and-forth action, and physical hockey. The Eagles tried to set the tone early by playing the body at every opportunity they could. The Blue Jackets opened the scoring at the 17:58 mark of the first half, cashing in on a 5 on 3 power play opportunity. The back and forth game continued after the Blue Jacket goal, but no more goals would be scored in the half.

To open the second half, Matt Adamski fired a shot from the point that eluded the Columbus goaltender. Adamski's blast tied the game at 1 apiece, and came via the power play. Josh Shingler and Ryan Faria earned assists on the play.

Columbus was quick to answer Adamski's goal, as they scored their second power play goal of the game 3:24 into the second half to regain their one goal advantage.

After the goal, the tight, physical play continued for the next ten minutes. Both teams earned many good scoring opportunities, most of them coming on respective power plays.

With about fourteen minutes to play, Columbus would score the first even strength goal of the game on a wrap-around play that eluded goaltender Chris Jackson. The goal gave Columbus a 3-1 lead that they defended for the remaining fourteen minutes. The Eagles had a couple good opportunities to close the gap, but could not cash in.

The Eagles face off against Compuware at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, and finish their day against the Pittsburgh Hornets at 5:30 p.m.

Eagles sweep Admirals at home
After a rough past few outings the Eagles got back to their winning ways at the Michigan Tech Student Ice Arena in Houghton by taking two games in a row against the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. The winning started just moments after the Michigan Tech Huskies upset Colorado College in NCAA Division One action. At around 10 p.m. the puck dropped and it was a great game by Chris Jackson that solidified the win for the Eagles. Jackson stopped everything going his way and the Eagle offense added two goals to take the game 2-0. Sunday morning came quickly, and it ended with more success for the Eagles. When the final buzzer blew it was the Eagles on top 6-3, the win moves the Eagles to 15-31-5. This is only the second time this year the team has won back-to-back games. They have next weekend off before heading down to Milwaukee to meet up again with the Jr. Admirals.

Alumni game scheduled for Sunday Morning
At 9 a.m. Sunday morning the Ojibwa Eagles will be matched up against a squad of local Eagle alumni. This is the first time an alumni game has been played, but will hopefully be just the start of a yearly tradition. This year's alumni lineup is filled with players from the GLHL, Michigan Tech Club Hockey Team and NCAA Division Three Hockey. Goaltender Rob Devaun who played two years with the Eagles will be manning the nets with Ryan Greenley, Jason Julien and Chris Hendrickson playing defense. Hendrickson will be fresh from a weekend trip with Finlandia University. Julien is currently playing for Michigan Tech's Club Team with fellow Eagle Alumnus Peter Radecki. On the offensive side of the ice will be Corey Engelhart, Rick Delecke, Jason Porkka, Trevor Morrison, Jeff Erkkila, Mike Babcock, Jeff Haapapuro and Radecki. Greenley, Engelhart, Porkka, Morrison, Erkkila, Babcock and Haapapuro will all be fresh off weekends playing in the GLHL either for Houghton's Portage Lake Pioneers or the Calumet Wolverines, while Delecke will be coming up from Ashland Wisconsin where he plays for Northland University.
